How Koizuma Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Handset Works

Koizuma IPL projects light pulses (with wavelength ranging between 550nm-1200nm) onto the skin. During the process, melanin in the hair absorbs the wavelengths of strong light pulses emitted from the device, thereby heating and damaging key areas of your hair follicle which stunts hair growth. After a few sessions, hair stops growing and prolonged usage can cause lasting results as light pulses stimulate the hair follicle to go into a resting phase.

The handset also stimulates regeneration of collagen and elastic fibre thereby, improves the colour and texture of the skin without surgery. It can treat some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure, which is most noticeable on face, neck, hands or chest. Koizuma helps even out the skin texture and colour, reduces wrinkles and skin rejuvenation.

  • Koizuma should not be painful, if you feel uncomfortable, reduce the light intensity setting.
  • After moving to another body area or recent tanning, perform a skin test to determine the right light intensity

General Conditions

The laser IPL treatment may not be as effective on individuals with dark skin as there is a higher concentration of melanin in darker skin tones as compared individuals with light skin. The treatment is not as effective on skin with high concentration of melanin due to the little contrast between skin colour and hair colour. This is because the melanin-rich skin cells can also absorb light from the IPL and heat up. This may cause pain, blister and even burns as IPL spreads onto the skin instead of being absorbed by hair follicles. Thus, laser and IPL devices works best on light to medium skin tones wit darker hair.

The Laser IPL treatment is also not as effective on blond, red, white and grey hair as they contain lower concentration of melanin. This is because IPL targets the melanin in hair follicle. Light hair follicles with low melanin concentration will not be able to absorb the IPL effectively. Melanin in darker hair tends to better absorbs light pulses from the device.
